Special topics in Biological Sciences

This module will focus on advanced techniques for imaging complex processes in living systems. The module is directed toward graduates with basic cell and molecular biology backgrounds. Covered topics include: capabilities, drawbacks and future prospects of light and electron microscopy, image processing and analysis, experimental and computational principles of cryo electron microscopy, confocal imaging, and cellular electron tomography. The module will introduce students into the technical background of novel imaging methods and their advanced applications in modern biology.
