Corporate Strategy

This module focuses on the work of the general manager at the head of a business entity - the corporation, business, division or plant. The module concentrates on the skills and actions required of the general manager for the development, communication and implementation of strategic organisational choices in the context of complex environmental conditions. The module will adopt a comparative perspective by first examining the evolution of strategic management practice in the West and in Asia, and then reconciling differences in practices from the viewpoint of an Asian manager. Typical topics include: perspectives on the role of firms in society; setting of mission and objectives; the concept of strategy; industry analysis, generic strategies; firm competencies; corporate strategy and diversification; environment analysis; strategy and structure; culture and other implementation processes; strategic leadership; organisational learning; stakeholder analysis and corporate ethics.
