Chinese Sociolinguistics

This module deals with the Chinese sociolinguistic issues of the interaction between language and society, language variation, dialects and national standard languages, bilingualism, language contact, language planning, language policy and language education. It aims to educate students with a positive attitude toward language and language variation. The course is designed for students across the University with an interest in language and society, and should be especially important for Singapore students who are living in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual society.
