Global Cities

Given that cities have long been integral nodes in the organisation of space beyond national boundaries, it is not unexpected that a major strand of the debates on globalisation and the re-mapping of the world space economy focuses on global cities. This module examines the concept of a global city and the discourses in the construction of global reach; transnational flows in the production of transnational urbanism; and the production and politics of “new” urban spaces at the nexus between the local and the global. The module is intended for students interested in urban studies.
