Engineering is an innovative profession. This can be observed from the machinery, equipment, utensils and products that engineers have designed throughout the history of mankind. The aim of this module is to widen the horizons of a student's understanding of the man-made world in which he is a part of. Topcis to be covered include: (1) Characteristics of engineering design, (2) History of engineering innovation, (3) Examples of engineering innovation, (4) Engineering design process, (5) Innovativeness in engineering design, (6) Case studies. A few hands on and interactive tutorials will also be included. The module does not involve mathematics and is therefore suitable for all non-engineering students.
