Digital Humanities in Arts Research

The Digital Humanities (DH) constitute exciting new ways of theorizing and practising research in the arts and humanities, from thinking about the role of social media in contemporary culture to running statistical tests on large textual corpora. This module introduces DH through the humanities’ emphasis on discussion and interpretation. A broad range of debates on the impact of digital media in culture are paired with digital methods for analysing cultural phenomena across several humanities disciplines. Reflecting the multiple approaches within DH, teaching combines seminar discussions of topics with hands-on training in web programming, text encoding and video processing techniques.
