Making Sense of Data - Health and the Internet

We are constantly exposed to evidence that claims to demonstrate cause and effect in health and disease. The use of the Internet as a source of health information is an emerging trend that underscores the need for critical thinking in assessing the validity of such data. This module allows students to examine the sources of such evidence and the pitfalls in interpreting data. Through case studies and individual/group projects, students will critique data that people use to make decisions about preventing disease and treating illness; and invoke and apply modes of inquiry commonly used in the natural and social sciences.
