Law & Politics in South Asia

This module focuses on contemporary legal and political institutions in the South Asian region, with particular emphasis on understanding the role and nature of law and constitutionalism. Although the primary focus will be on Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, developments in Bhutan and Nepal will also be covered. The module will employ readings and perspectives from the disciplines of history, politics, sociology and economics to understand how these affect the evolution of South Asian legal systems over time. It will also adopt comparative perspectives and analyse how individual legal systems in South Asia are influenced by other nations in the region.
