This course examines the economic, social and political issues corporations face in the pursuit of profit. The focus will be on Multinational Corporations (MNCs). The human rights, environmental, labour and anti-corruption issues such corporations face will be examined. The course will also examine the accountability mechanisms in place to hold such corporations responsible. It will consider relevant soft and hard laws. The role non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other civil society play in ensuring responsible corporate behaviour will be considered. Major topics to be covered include: Corporate governance and CSR; International law and CSR; Global governance and CSR.
