The course encompasses the theoretical and practical concepts underpinning the entire criminal litigation process, from pre-trial to post-conviction. Coverage will include the role of the charge, drafting of charges, plea-bargains, guilty pleas, trials, consequential orders and appeals. Common evidential issues arising in trials will also be discussed. The aim is to provide both a holistic overview of the entire process as well as detailed examination of specific areas. The course will cover criminal procedure and evidence as well as include advocacy exercises in common criminal proceedings and a practical attachment at the Criminal Justice Division.
