Cybercrime and Society

This third year module discusses the growing problem of the use of ICTs for illegal activities. Students will learn about threats to information resources - such as hacking, illegal surveillance, identity theft, online fraud, destruction and modification of data, distortion and fabrication of information. They will also learn about countermeasures used by governments and organisations - such as authentication, encryption, auditing, monitoring, intrusion detection, firewalls, and law enforcement surveillance - as well as what are the limitations of those countermeasures. The module will also examine the problem of online obscenity and child pornography. For CNM, FASS and SoC students
