This course is an advanced course in child abnormal psychology. It is intended to build a foundation of knowledge and concepts necessary in the specialized area of child clinical psychology, by focusing on theory, research and clinical application in the area of childhood psychological disorders. Theories that will be highlighted include developmental psychopathology, the diathesis-stress model and cultural diversity models. Psychological disorders relevant to the following periods of development will be discussed: infancy/early childhood; school age; adolescence. The seminars will consist of lectures, as well as in-class, small-group discussion of current clinical topics and selected research papers.
