Social Welfare Policy and Services

The aim of this module is for students to understand and review the social welfare policies and services for vulnerable group in Singapore. They will learn to do so in the international historical and theoretical context of the welfare state and welfare pluralism, and contemporary international discourses on social and human development. Review of social welfare policy and services in Singapore will focus upon the welfare pluralism policy approach with reference to family and community-based services for the vulnerable groups such as low income families, children, youth, older persons, persons with disability, addictive behaviours, women, prisoners’ family and ex-prisoners.
